Jean Gaumy

Jean Gaumy (b.1948)was born in Pontaillac (Charente-Maritime), France, he attended school in Toulouse and Aurillac, and received his higher education in Rouen. In 1975 he undertook two long works on subjects never before broached in France: the first L’Hopital (1976) and the second, Les Incarcérés (1983). He has created several award-winning films, among them include: La Boucane (1984), Jean-Jacques (1987), Marcel, prêtre (1994), and Marin (2006) where he spent four months underwater aboard a nuclear attack submarine. Photographs taken during a cycle of winter voyages aboard trawlers, led to the publication of Pleine Mer (2001). He received the Prix Nadar in 2001. He received the prix Nadar (for the second time) rewarding the book D'après Nature (2010). He was officially named Peintre de la Marine in 2008.
