During the Vietnam War, in the wake of major U.S. bombardments during the battle of An Locs (South Vietnam), the explosions leave behind smoky, ghostly, abstract forms. A threat to the few remaining survivors: anamorphic figures emerge in the frame. In this scene of quiet and chaos after the battle, a wounded body is carried to a medical center.

Over four decades, Bruno Barbey has travelled the world extensively, applying a unique aesthetic to his acclaimed color photography. He has undertaken journeys across five continents to report on multiple military conflicts. His work was awarded the French National Order of Merit.
