Streams: a drawing by Werner Bischof, created in Zurich, Switzerland, in 1941. Werner Bischof was introduced to graphic and photographic technique by his teachers, and became a pioneer of both. Hans Finsler was one of Werner Bischof's most important mentors, and a pioneer of "New Photography." Another important figure was Alfred Willimann, who taught responsibility and quality; clarity and consistency of thought; and action and judgment. Their teachings left an imprint on the young photographer, who continued to explore the photographic medium throughout his career.

Swiss photographer, Werner Bischof, gained international recognition following his reportage of the devastation caused by the Second World War. He was the first photographer to join Magnum’s four founding members in 1949 but died in a tragic car accident just 5 years later.
