Portrait of stallion Remus, who fathered the Swiss Cavalry, photographed in Switzerland in 1944. Werner Bischof found great significance in Haras Federal, a stud-horse farm near Avenches in western Switzerland. He felt a strong connection with the people he met there. These connections urged him to think about photography in relationship to the dynamics of moving objects.

Swiss photographer, Werner Bischof, gained international recognition following his reportage of the devastation caused by the Second World War. He was the first photographer to join Magnum’s four founding members in 1949 but died in a tragic car accident just 5 years later.
