During the Yom Kippur War in Israel, a road is covered with anti-vehicle mines. These geometrical forms stand in the broken landscape, like guardians barring the way. Clouds of smoke on the horizon indicate an ongoing battle, while small figures wander in the background, like lost sentinels.

Micha Bar-Am has been a Magnum Correspondent since 1968. Born in Berlin, he moved with his family to Israel - then Palestine - in 1936. His documentation of the Arab-Israeli War has been widely published in magazines and books. Micha Bar-Am was awarded the Robert Capa Award in 1959 and 1960.
