Burt Glinn became an associate member of Magnum in 1951 (along with Eve Arnold and Dennis Stock – the first Americans to join the young photo agency) and a full member in 1954. He travelled to Cuba to cover the revolution in 1959, photographed the Beatniks in New York City in the late 60s, and went on to become a hugely successful commercial photographer. Here he captures two young hippies peacefully protesting the Vietnam War during the Democratic National Convention.

At a time of major political disruption, with the rise of populism and a swing to the right in Europe and the USA coming hot on the heels of the Arab Spring, this curation takes a look through Magnum's archive at photographs of protest from the 1930s to the present day.
