Bruno Barbey joined Magnum in 1964 and throughout his career has travelled widely documenting different cultures in Italy, Morocco (where he was born and raised), and greater Africa, in addition to conflicts in the Middle East and the Vietnam War. At the age of 25, while photographing the Paris Riots of 1968, a student uprising broke out on his doorstep. These protestors were part of a larger movement in France at the time that consisted of students, workers and citizens seeking societal change. At one point 10 million people joined the strikes.

At a time of major political disruption, with the rise of populism and a swing to the right in Europe and the USA coming hot on the heels of the Arab Spring, this curation takes a look through Magnum's archive at photographs of protest from the 1930s to the present day.
