North of Hong Kong lies the Harbour of Kowloon. Built to emulate an ancient Chinese sailing ship design, ‘junk boats’ appear as a visual reminder of a colonial heritage. Like origami figures, the darkly geometrical shapes of the boats contrast with the light of the sea. A symbol of a past city, now a megalopolis.

Swiss photographer, Werner Bischof, gained international recognition following his reportage of the devastation caused by the Second World War. He was the first photographer to join Magnum’s four founding members in 1949 but died in a tragic car accident just 5 years later.
