The Gurgler Glacier in Obergurgl, near the Ötztal valley (Austria): the ice’s sculptural forms in shades of turquoise flow and spread across the photographic frame. Sunlight reflects on the glacier’s sides, contrasting with the deep and dark tone of the rock and the ghostly appearance of water. Bound in an abstract composition and captured from an insider’s point of view, the interplay of textures offers a surreal and enigmatic view of the glacial landscape.

British photographer Stuart Franklin gained international recognition for his iconic photographs of Beijing’s Tiananmen Square. Between 1990 and 2004, he explored the relationship between man and nature, published notably in a series of National Geographic Magazine commissions, and in a book of large-format photographs documenting Europe’s changing landscapes, Footprint: Our Landscape in Flux.
