A wood fire in Viñales, Pinar Del Rio, Cuba, produces a white smoke that rises against the deep pigment of the sky. A minute human figure contrasts with the grandiose scale of landscape. Through his series Paradiso, Michael Christopher Brown explores what the U.S. foreign policy change towards Cuba will mean for the average Cuban, while challenging the American apprehension of this country.

Michael Christopher Brown is an Associate Member of Magnum Photos, best known for his unique approach to photographing conflicts in regions such as Libya and the Democratic Republic of Congo. He has been working on a long term exploration of Cuba since the US lifted the trade embargoes in late 2014.
