René Burri

René Burri (1933-2014) studied at the School of Applied Arts in his native city of Zurich, Switzerland. He worked as a documentary filmmaker and began to photograph while doing his military service. He photographed artists such as Picasso, Giacometti, and Le Corbusier. His images of Ernesto 'Che' Guevara with his cigar appeared around the world. His books include: Die Deutschen (1962) and Les Allemands (1963). Burri participated in the creation of Magnum Films in 1965, then spent six months in China making the film, The Two Faces of China.
