The English photographer George Rodger was one of the founding members of in 1947. Both he and Robert Capa were contracted to Life during the war and met during the invasion of Italy. On Magnum's founding Rodger was given the African continent as his main area of activity. This image of New York from above, taken from the most famous and tallest landmark in the city at that time. must have been taken when the photographer was in town for meetings with Magnum's New York bureau or commissioning editors
